the flesh series began as a material experiment, attempting to transform whimsical felt material into something disgusting and off-putting. through material experimentation and researching previous artist techniques, I discovered that layering vaseline onto a finished felt piece provided this everlasting, wet flesh.
inspired by leather tanning, I learned to weld in order to suspend these fleshy felt pieces in metal frames.
This project culminated in flesh 2 (above), a 6ft by 4ft rusted frame with vaseline felt and crochet chain suspended inside. This frame was suspended with airplane wire down into the atrium space for my senior thesis exhibition.
This project is ongoing, with more flesh sculpture in the works.
